World War 1 Discussion with John Cunningham – Margaret Hennigar Public Library

Ocean liners bringing men home from The First War 100 years ago this month will be the subject of a 2:00 p.m., , Saturday, January 26th presentation at the Margaret Hennigar Branch of the South Shore Regional Library, in Bridgewater.

The presentation by retired journalist and amateur military historian John Cunningham, of Bridgewater, will include readings from his current war history Where Duty Lies blended with sections of past newspaper accounts of return voyages of ocean liners requisitioned as hospital ships and troop carriers.

These voyages, in the months immediately following the Armistice, came at a time the deadly Spanish Flu was sweeping the globe and the ocean-going medical staff were hard-pressed dealing with the sick and trying to control the spread of the highly-contagious disease.
